All economic and political bets are now off – or rather they should be

VLADIMIR PUTIN’S invasion of Ukraine has changed the World, not for the next few weeks, or this year, but for decades.

It is incumbent on any government to not only recognise this as a fact, but to react accordingly.

It is also oft said that for self-preservation, politicians up against it from their own populace have a tendency to go to war.

This time Ra, Ra, Ras-Putin has done it for Boris, providing him opportunities, but ONLY if acted upon.

Whatever government ideas and expenditures have previously been committed to MUST be reappraised and unpalatable, even brutal decisions made.  What does this mean for the United Kingdom?  Forget some decisions were made solely for political reasons, or even “Green” fantasies; at least Boris now has a good excuse, so use it.

For a start, in one form or another there is now the need for vastly increased defence expenditure.

Where are the massive funds required to come from?  They can ONLY come from a complete reappraisal of all plans and projects.

The most obvious places to start are HS2, UK energy policies so appallingly implemented over two decades – and the need to resolve a Brexit that has clearly stalled.

Relying on imported gas from Russia via Europe must be recognised as dead in the water.

It must also be clear that the “Green” policies for net zero must be abandoned overnight, along with Boris’ ludicrous “Shell Game” of carbon neutral, by forcing people to scrap natural gas boilers and wood burners using imported wood pellets, while simultaneously banning natural gas boilers!  Sheer lunacy!

Reducing nuclear reliance must be reversed, “fracking” allowed and used with a vengeance – and all of this must be set in motion immediately.

Boris will clearly now escape ejection from No.10, courtesy Sue Gray, The Met and Ras-Putin, the last in particular having given the gutless waverers in the Conservative Party MP an excuse to NOT vote him out “in these grave times”, but in reality, desperate for ANY excuse to preserve the Conservative Party.

How they imagine they will win the next election with Boris still there beggars belief! They will be toast! This from myself, despite philosophically a Conservative supporter! Yet I modestly, and Putin actually, throw Boris and the Conservative Party, a lifeline.

All he need do is grasp it and make a short, major announcement citing a changed world order and scrap:

1.     HS2,

2.     His self-imposed “Green” commitments,

3.     All restrictions on North Sea oil and fracking,

4.     The sheer lunacy of imported wood pellets by the ship load from Canada, and

5.     Above all, Invoke Article 16, scrap the WA and NIP in favour of World Trade agreements only, citing them no longer workable in this now changed world order, which be assured it is!

All of these now clearly unworkable due to not quantifiable future costs, the future money having to come from simply unaffordable taxes, imposed in what is equally clearly a developing inflationary environment.

It makes no sense hanging on to any project because it is thought whatever has already been spent will then have been wasted.  The focus should now be on not throwing good money after bad, paying no further money whatsoever to the EU and therefore suddenly, in effect, having a windfall of cash to use on the military.

The Government and Civil Service having been very willing to simply write off £5 Billion or so of fraud during Covid (with worse to come), so it should be happy to focus on the clear financial benefits of the five points above now!

If Boris did as suggested here, his -17 popularity rating would rise exponentially to +80 on the Conservative Party leadership table.

It is absolutely essential now!  Justification will deteriorate with time and opportunity lost, just like ejection from No.10 has faded.  Boris must grasp this resurrection opportunity with both hands!

Carpe diem Boris and with a vengeance!
