“We stopped all the boats in weeks” – Starmer-Macron plan is “dead in the water,” say Australians

UK’s ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ group gets “full backing” from Australian governance organisation

“Australia must share in the UK’s battle to maintain its sovereignty. We must stand together,” say Aussies

Yesterday’s débâcle of Sir Keir Starmer’s attempts to retrieve something from the hugely extravagant welcome he put on for French President Macron this week has been described as “an embarrassing flop”, viewed from half-way round the World.

Yesterday in Sydney, Australia, the ‘Australians for Better Government’ organisation announced its “full and unequivocal endorsement and backing” for the surging UK campaign group ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’. Making the announcement on the same day that Sir Keir Starmer was attempting to rescue some kind of deal from the hugely lavish State Visit of French President Macron, the Australians did not hold back in offering their opinion, when asked.

“Australia dealt with thousands of illegal boat people entering our waters in the past. The former Rudd/Gillard Labor Government allowed it to happen and to continue. Then Tony Abbott was elected with the mandate to ‘stop the boats’. With swift action, tough decisions and leadership he did it.

“What you’ve got isn’t even a deal because Macron has to go running to Brussels to get approval, and even if he gets it, this deal’s not going to stop the boats.

‘Australians for Better Government Inc’ (ABG) rallies behind UK’s ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’

This morning the UK campaign group ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ announced the news that ABG has come out in full support. This news shows just how far the group’s messaging is reaching. The campaign group has continued to grow in stature since its 15 June launch announced on GB News.

It has gone from strength to strength, with endorsements from a former Prime Minister, several former Secretaries of State and Ministers, to Peers, political commentators, and senior members of the legal profession.

Its most recent initiative was alerting the public to the imposition of EU-derived law on the entire UK – a law which was pushed through Parliament without any debate being allowed. It was this case that really put Stand for Our Sovereignty on the map, with the campaign group’s messaging being seen over ½ million times by voters in the run up to the law being railroaded into law by Sir Keir Starmer’s team.

International recognition

Today the group has taken another step forward in recognition by winning its first international backing – from the other side of the World. Speaking exclusively to GB News from Sydney, Australia, the President of Australians for Better Government Inc (ABG), Steven Tripp, explained why supporting the UK’s campaign for sovereignty was so important for Australians.

“In recent years, the Australian public has watched from afar as successive British Governments have signed away the sovereignty of the United Kingdom. UK leaders have ignored the will of the people and the result of Brexit, instead negotiating deals behind closed doors with the UK’s sovereignty under threat as never before.”

The ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ campaign was originally an initiative by the Brexit Facts4EU think-tank and now comes under the umbrella organisation of the Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIBUK) which is the longest-running independence organisation in the country, founded in 1969. CIBUK is now coordinating the efforts of seven Affiliated Organisations.

ABG’s support for CIBUK’s ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ campaign comes after an agreement of affiliation between the two groups. The affiliation sees Leigh Evans become an ABG Board Member and Honorary Ambassador to the UK and Europe, and Australians for Better Government being given Affiliate Status by CIBUK, with its President Steven Tripp being invited to join the CIBUK Board.

Defending our sovereign rights and freedoms

“We may be separated by thousands of miles but the United Kingdom and Australia must stand as one when it comes to defending the sovereign rights and freedoms of our two countries.

I can confirm that ABG is throwing its full support behind Stand for Our Sovereignty.”

Australians for Better Government Inc (ABG) is a grass-roots organisation campaigning for reform of the constitution, the protection of freedoms and direct democracy to ensure that those who are voted into government better reflect the views and values of those they are supposed to represent.

Australians have increasingly had their own challenges, from overwhelmingly defeating a government-backed referendum to give indigenous peoples preferential treatment, to Net Zero projects being approved by ministerial order without debate or proper local consultation.

These have solid echos in the UK, with clear moves towards ‘Rejoin the EU by stealth’ and in recent government moves to impose EU-derived laws by what amounts to executive order.

Deep disillusionment Down Under
– but bringing a shared hope and determination

ABG’s President Steven Tripp was unimpressed by the French President

“He uses words like ‘lies’ when talking about Brexit. We see it very differently. Brexit was a profound statement made by the people of Britain that they want to govern themselves, beyond external interventions.”

“Ordinary citizens of both the UK and Australia instinctively know something is wrong. While the UK is once again surrendering its sovereignty to a bureaucratic machine like the EU, Australia is ceding decisions on domestic policy to unelected international bodies. Fundamentally, Government is meant to represent the people – the People must have the final say. We must resist the slow creep by international elites to erode our National sovereignty.”

Speaking for Stand for Our Sovereignty, the group’s Chairman,
Leigh Evans, said:

Commenting from Stand for Our Sovereignty

“We are naturally delighted to have this support from our Antipodean cousins from Australians for Better Government.

“Since the UK left the EU, the traditionally strong relations between our peoples have started getting back to normal,” says Evans. “We have a free trade agreement reached in record time, the AUKUS defence pact for submarines, and the UK has joined the CPTPP trading bloc.

“Working with our freedom-loving Australian friends at ABG is a natural and very welcome development.”

– Leigh Evans, Chairman, Stand for Our Sovereignty 10 Jul 2025
