Exciting news from CIB

We have exciting news for all who believe in freedom, democracy, and the full independence of the United Kingdom as a sovereign nation.

For over 50 years the Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIB) has made a significant contribution in campaigning on issues important to the majority of our population, and in securing our exit from the European Union. Now it’s time for the next chapter.

CIB is on the up and running strongly

We are pleased to announce developments at CIB which we are sure you will warmly welcome. Following the retirement of Edward Spalton, the National Committee has a new Chairman – a businessman with a solid record of having built successful independence groups such as Facts4EU.Org and of forging alliances with other organisations, both in the UK and internationally. Edward has kindly agreed to stay on as Honorary President.

In the last three months we have all been busy on activities which will rejuvenate CIB and once again make it a major power to be reckoned with in the country.

We must be in no doubt that there continue to be forces ranged against us which are very well-funded and which of course have support in parts of our national media. These not only include the campaigns to re-join the EU but also encompass other threats to our personal freedoms, such as those advocating the ‘cancel culture’ prevalent in so many of our educational and other institutions.

CIB Renaissance

And so we begin a renaissance of CIB as the umbrella organisation to take on these challenges and we have already made great strides forward:-

  • There is now a CIB Online Operations Team which is busy working on major updates to our website and social media presence. You will start to see the effects over the coming weeks and we are now using https://cibuk.org/ as our main website address.
  • Following this, there will be a membership drive.
  • We have reached out to leaders of other organisations and we already have eight groups who have agreed to co-operate fully with us, providing website content and other support. More to come.
  • We now have new members of the National Committee, and more who will attend meetings as guests. Notably, Professor Daniel Hodson has agreed to come on board as Deputy Chairman. Daniel has extensive Westminster and City connections.
  • We have also approached politicians we know in order to boost our influence, and this initiative has received warm reactions. We expect to start making announcements very soon.
  • In addition we have contacted those who lead organisations internationally and whose aims align with CIB’s. We hope to start securing co-operation agreements in the coming months.
  • Funding:  We are up against UK organisations whose funding we believe totals over £500,000 per annum. If we are to take them on, we need to step up our efforts and we are pleased to tell you that the first major donor has come on board. We will need many more like him and we would ask you to contact us urgently if you can help.
  • A ‘Platinum Club’ is in the process of being established, for those in a position to boost our coffers in a significant way. We will be publishing details in due course.
  • Finally, our Honorary Secretary Jim Reynolds, and our Honorary Treasurer John Harrison FCA, who did so much during the Referendum campaign, will carry on their great work.

CIB’s Officers and the National Committee are all enthusiastic about our future as an umbrella organisation and about all the new initiatives.

We hope you welcome all the above. We need your continued support – as members, as donors, and very importantly as advocates for the things we all believe in.
