Summary
Extracts from Part II of this interview
On Net Zero
“What I’m not persuaded of is this belief that we’re in some sort of climate crisis catastrophe, [that] the planet is burning. That just didn’t seem to me to be justified by the evidence.”
“We’ve chosen a way of dealing with net zero across the West, which is a kind of high cost, high tax, socialist, socialised government direction way of doing it. We’ve chosen this irrational route of wind power and solar power.”
“Renewables on the grid that just push up costs are not reliable, don’t deliver power when we when we need it.”
‘We are pushing up the costs, driving business out of Britain to countries who have different sets of priorities and it’s all going to end in tears.’
On Illegal Migration
‘What some of us advocated …is…a more robust Bill which completely excludes jurisprudence from the ECHR, from UN conventions in this area, excludes to an even greater extent domestic challenge to removals…’
‘You’ve got to have a proper deterrent at the heart of it. We’ve got to make that work. We should be much more rigorous about refusing asylum to people who are gaming the system.’
On Legal Migration
‘It’s too high.’
“The economic departments within the government believe that immigration is an unalloyed good. They don’t look at the costs over time as well as the benefits. They look at the overall size of the economy. They don’t look at GDP per head, which is actually falling now and has been for two years.”
‘We should have made the rules much more restrictive. And we just haven’t. And that must be done.’
On the ECHR
‘We are not going to be able to control our border rules…while we’re caught up in this web of ECHR jurisprudence.’
‘None of this insuperable. It is a complex task and it needs thinking through.’
Observations
Once again, we would like to reiterate our thanks to Lord David Frost for giving up his time to talk to us in this, the second of a five-part series on the challenges now facing the nation.
How refreshing it is to hear the views of a public figure who has thought deeply about the problems we are now facing and addressed them in such a clear and unambiguous manner. We are sure his policy recommendations will chime with millions up and down the country and we thank him for the contribution he is making to the public debate.
Finally, we are grateful to readers who donated to enable this to happen. We badly need more of you to donate, to cover the additional costs of a project like this. Thank you in advance if you can help us to recoup some more of the costs.
