Observations
For decades the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union froze out the traditionally-strong links between the British and our Australian cousins. After many years the EU has still been unable to agree a trade deal with Australia, but the newly-independent UK managed it in just one year.
Since Brexit the UK has agreed a free trade agreement with Australia, has agreed a submarine deal called AUKUS, (which severely upset France’s President Macron), and is generally improving relations between the two Commonwealth countries.
