Freedom under threat: how Big Tech tried to take us down
By Ben Philips, Communications Director, CIBUK
If CIBUK ever needed convincing of its vital role in continuing to uphold democracy, freedom and independence in the face of the global establishment, the experience we have recently endured at the hands of Big Tech confirmed it.
In a link to an article from our facts-based affiliate BrexitFacts4EU which we include at the bottom of the page, we describe the extraordinary events which started just a few weeks ago following the launch of our crowd-funding initiative to raise money for a TV-style documentary film promoting the positive case for an independent Britain outside the European Union, and as a rebuttal to the on-going Rejoiner campaign to take us back in.
Quite how widespread the Remainer-Establishment’s power and influence extends can be gauged by the abrupt manner in which our campaign was taken down and halted in its tracks without notice or explanation – only a day after going live.
At that point, the funds so generously donated by our supporters were frozen by the powers-that-be for reasons which remain bizarre and incomprehensible. We also found out that this crowd-funding site was charging our donors “ips”, in addition to the commission they were taking from us. One donor gave £1,000 and was charged a “tip” of £150! Only by submitting to their extraordinary rules did they release the block on our account by which time the damage was done. The campaign came to a juddering halt and we are now having to re-launch our campaign using an alternative platform.
We’re pleased to say that is now live and readers can make donations here:

The experience was all the more galling given the smooth and supportive service which the other side have received when launching crowdfunding programmes of their own.
It also points to a wider danger across the western world: that those who exercise the political, financial and technical clout to make things happen are doing so in pursuit of their own agenda which is increasingly at odds with those they are supposed to serve.
Moreover, this is not the first collision which CIBUK has had with Big Tech. We encountered similar problems earlier this year when we tried to get our Wikipedia page updated and approved. After weeks and months spent trying to do so ourselves, we were advised that it could only be done by consultants who are versed in ‘wiki-speak’ (aka propaganda) to act on our behalf.
Readers may well have encountered something similar in their personal or professional lives. The problems are compounded by the lack of personal contact or accountability. The only ‘conversations’ that take place are between the user and a chat-box or an automated emailer called ‘Alice’ or ‘Gabriel.’
Comparisons with our political and media class are obvious. Like their cousins in BigTech, they inhabit their own little world, operate along parallel lines and speak a meta-language which is wholly alien to those they are supposed to represent.
The result is a growing mis-alignment between service providers and elected officials on the one hand and their customers and voters on the other, leaving the latter angry and alienated and with no obvious recourse against them.
This is the wider background against which those of us who are fighting for freedom, democracy and sovereignty must make our stand.
Make no mistake: the fight will be long and drawn out. Our opponents are powerful, their pockets run deep and their influence is widespread.
No matter, we will not be deterred. We will continue to monitor them, rebut them and make the case for sovereignty, democracy and freedom under the law. Our very way of life depends on it.
‘Aeterna vigilia pretium libertatis est,’ “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”.

Finally, here is how we’re doing so far
We and CIBUK have a target budget of £75,000 to make this documentary, which is 75% of what the Rejoiners have raised for just one of theirs. Fortunately some professionals have offered their services at reduced rates, which is why we do not need as much as the other side.
