Sorry, I don’t really understand this post. Which “paper” does it refer to? If the paper clarifies how much less we’d pay to the EU if we left and re-joined EFTA instead, then it should be a valuable contribution to the debate, much of which is based on very little knowledge of EFTA. However the paper doesn’t seem to be attached.
I’m also not sure how our Government can reduce spending by the EU. Surely the EU controls its own spending, wherever the money is spent? I know that we have to match EU funding on each project, so perhaps we can reduce the number of new EU-funded projects we approve. I also know that EU funding is very convoluted, so perhaps there is another way. Could you enlighten me?
The paper is available by clicking the blue “this paper” words in the article. It is a link to the paper itself.
I don’t understand it either Ken. It was my understanding that our Budget was virually ‘Made In Frankfurt’ and passed by the ECB. It was also my understanding that if Brussels, or the ECB, decided that we were to pay an extra billion or two, we could not refuse. It was also my understanding that Councils in Britain could be fined substantial amounts of money for, among other things, failing to hit Recycling Targets set by Brussels funded Quangos. We have no control of our trade and our borders, plus decreasing control over our finances, so cannot consider ourselves a Free and Independent Country. Since our trade with the rest of the world is heading north of 60%, why do we need the hassle of a Corporate Driven Commissariat.
