Hypocrisy of PM eulogising the Queen while abolishing her realm

Ludwig II was King of Bavaria from 1864 to 1886. In 1870 the independent nation-state of Bavaria became a state (in the sense of a province or part) of the new federal German Empire (Germany). Ludwig II was thus King of a a non-country from 1870 onwards, similar to being King of Ontario, Canada or New South Wales, Australia in our time. A non-sequitur. Only an independent nation-state (country) can have a monarch as its titular head. Queen Elizabeth and the monarchs of Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands no longer fit in as heads of Member States (provinces) of a nascent European Union federal country. As long as the word ‘country’ is still used in references to the United Kingdom, the Queen’s position would seem to make sense to the average Brit. But of course the UK is in reality no longer a country for all intents and purposes; it now exists as part of a larger country which from the commencement of the Lisbon Treaty on 1 January 2009 has ‘legal personality’, i.e. an identity and legal standing separate from its parts. Until the end of 2008 the legal argument was made that the EU was an agent of the Member States it represented and thus not a higher separate level of government. But the basis of that argument disappeared. I remember that after approval of the Lisbon Treaty was shoved through the House of Lords by Gordon Brown (with the LibDems changing their vote there 180 degrees from that held by LibDems in the House of Commons), the Queen went so far as to gratuously add her own praise for the new Treaty in French in addition to the fixed praise in English that Gordon Brown had prepared for her to deliver. She then signed off on a Treaty that took away a further chunk of the sovereign rights that belonged only to the British people and not to their representative Government, and which only the people had the right to surrender. In so doing, she not only betrayed the British people but also shot herself in the foot by lavishly praising a document that took away the basis for the existence of the British monarchy!! I lost all respect for Queen Elizabeth on that day.

Mr Cameron also needs to be challenged publicly, in the House of Commons on his hypocritical stance re Magna Carta. Last year he was waxing lyrical about it while seeking to Remain and have the EU legal system destroy its vital features which are in the very DNA of the English and our kith and kin from the Commonwealth. What a spiv. He is getting far too much publicity on TV and in front of young people. This is a serious deficit which must be challenged by those who are in a position to do so.
