Freedom lost a friend and CIB a long-serving member in Alan Sheath who died on January 13th at the age of 90. An impressive, kindly, thoughtful character, Alan’s genial supporting presence graced many independence events of all sorts in the East and West Midlands, where he was indefatiguable in delivering leaflets.
He stood as UKIP candidate for Halesowen and Rowley Regis in the 2001 general election and later chaired the Halesowen branch. He was also fully involved in the Walsall UKIP branch as he lived in Aldridge and gave full service to both branches.
Like many independence campaigners, Alan was appreciative of European countries and their cultures. A keen member of the local French club, he was a fluent French speaker. It was the EU and its nation-destroying philosophy which he detested.
He greatly assisted the cause of independence in other ways. He and his son for many years produced all of our CIB placards for demonstrations, including those for the now almost forgotten campaign against the balkanisation of England into EU regions.
His placards were to be seen in London, outside the East Midlands Regional Assembly meetings in Melton Mowbray, and many other places besides.
Alan is survived by his wife Dorothy to whom CIB and many friends throughout the independence movement extend their deepest sympathy and condolences.
