CIB welcomes Briefings for Brexit and Labour Leave

We are delighted to welcome the latest two organisations to become affiliate members of CIB: Briefings for Brexit and Labour Leave.

Briefings for Brexit is comprised of professionals from a wide range of academic, business and other backgrounds. It was founded by two academics based at the University of Cambridge: historian Professor Robert Tombs, and economist Dr Graham Gudgin (whom CIB members will remember from his enlightening speech at our 2018 Annual Rally). They aim to give a voice to pro-Brexit scholars wanting to break free from the Remain-dominated groupthink in academia.

Briefings for Brexit now features hundreds of articles from a wide range of academics and specialist professionals. The team has also launched a highly successful series of podcasts, the most recent of which features eminent economist Professor Ashoka Mody, author of the prize-winning book EuroTragedy: A Drama in Nine Acts, explaining why the economic costs of Brexit have been greatly overstated.

Briefings for Brexit has become a go-to site for those wishing to understand the evidence-based, intellectual case for Brexit. Their ethos fits in perfectly with CIB’s long history of informing the public on the dangers and implications of Euro-federalism, and we are delighted to have them on board.

Labour Leave is the campaign group for Labour Party members which campaigned for Leave in the 2016 referendum. Labour Leave continues to campaign for a fair deal from the Brexit negotiations, and to hold the government and the Labour Party to account on Brexit policy.

We have enjoyed friendly cooperation Labour Leave ever since it was founded in the run-up to the referendum. Those who attended our Annual Rally last year will remember the passion of Brendan Chilton’s barnstorming speech, while Kate Hoey’s wonderful presentation at our 2016 Annual Rally of the many reasons to vote Leave inspired us to get the most out of our campaigning in the referendum that took place just two months later. And of course, Labour Leave founder John Mills has long been a valued CIB committee member. We very much look forward to even closer collaboration going forward.
