Nigel Farage’s announcement that the Brexit Party will not be fielding candidates in constituencies which voted Conservative at the last election is a welcome relief for the cause of independence. There was a risk that the splitting of majority pro-independence votes could let in Remainer candidates in many seats.
The Brexit Party, he said, would be concentrating on Labour-held constituencies, which often had strong pro-independence votes in the referendum. Many are places where the Conservatives have little chance of ever commanding a majority.
We hope that the Conservatives will make some imaginative response to strengthen the wider pro-independence campaign in the light of this new development.
CIB is, of course, a cross-party organisation and we don’t tell people which party to vote for. It is up to us individually to decide in each constituency which candidate will advance the cause of independence most effectively.
